I used to live in Indiana and took Steak n Shake for granted. It's really a nice option to have. Trust me, you'll miss it once you move away. I would consider it more of a fast food restaurant than a mid-level chain, but the quality of the food is far superior to any other fast food burger joints. Except the fries, the fries aren't very good, but you can get a double steak-burger with fries for $3.99. The shakes are also about $3, and as good as, if not better than something you would get at an Applebee's or Chili's. I also like that they are 24 hours. I pulled at least a dozen all nighters at a Steak n Shake, studying for finals. They were pretty cool about letting you sit there and sip coffee all night.

Every once in a while, my son and I will grab Steak 'n Shake when we're out running errands. This is my least favorite of the three in town, but tonight motivated me to write a review. When we walked in tonight, we were overtaken by an awful smell. We should have just left, but decided that we were tired and hungry so stuck around. After a few minutes it hit me, the smell was probably old mop water. The seats of our booth were littered with crumbs, but I just wiped them down with napkins to avoid a towel soaked in that nasty old water, in case that was the smell. The service was slow - very, very slow and my son's shake order came out wrong. Tables around us were complaining. One was told that a manager would be right out to hear their complaint, but the manager never appeared. The staff seemed to be working hard to keep up, but I couldn't figure out why. Maybe if the manager hadn't spent the whole time in the office, things would have been running more smoothly. I like the concept of Steak 'n Shake and know the food can be good and it can be a nice, casual place to bond with my son, but I won't be back to this location.

If I could I would leave zero stars for my review. This place has the worst service - it makes absolutely no sense how you can drive through and get a burger in five united but when we eat in (the last two times) it's taken nearly an hour to get our food. Seriously? And nobody from the waitress to the wandering managers seems concerned or apologetic.

Service is bad just about every time I've been to this Steak n Shake, but tonight was the worst yet. Besides my table, there were only two other tables of people, a very slow night. Sit down, server comes over after nearly 5 minutes. We order a water and a pop, and our food. More than 10 minutes go by and still no drinks have been delivered. I see that our sever is checking out a few people at the register. Apparently the manager on staff was too busy screwing around to take care of the register so the server could tend to her tables. The grill wasn't even going so I'm pretty sure there was no one in the drive thru. Our server gets done with the customers at the register and starts cleaning tables. Clearly forgot about our drinks, and judging by the kitchen workers standing around and no burgers on the grill, our food as well. After several minutes of cleaning tables, she looks up and sees me staring at her, turns around says "shit" just barely audibly, and goes to the register. Yep, she forgot to put our order in all together. By this time it's been nearly 15 minutes. She finally brings our drinks and says "I had to wait for the system to reboot, so I just put your order in". System reboot? Firstly, she was cashing people out, so clearly the system was up. Secondly, how is that a proper excuse for not serving our drinks for 15 minutes? And thirdly, so if your system goes down, the cooks are unable to take a hand written order? And you just let customers sit for 15 minutes rather than giving the option to leave, since apparently the system being down also means food and drinks can't be served or prepared. Hm. Bad lie, lady. To top it all off, our food sat in the window while our server stood two feet from it telling her son (the cook) and the manager "what did you say about me? What did you say about me? Tell me what you said about me". If it weren't for her son telling her to run the food, who knows how long it would have been before she realized she had a job to do. An easy job. Food is delivered. Cheese sauce that we ordered was missing. We tell her. Think she apologized? No. Not for missing part of our order, and not for forgetting to put our order in. I don't forsee dining at this establishment again in the near future. At least not while that idiot manager works there. Same guy there every time we're in. Never checks on customers. Rarely helps cash people out. Just stands around, talking. Loudly. In case a GM reads this and cares to make a change and improvement, we were tonight 8/20 around 11:45. Cashed out nearly an hour later. The manager on duty is worthless. And your servers could use some training.

I am so sick of this place I will never come to this one again. I have done gave this place a chance after the last time when I found a unknown object in my food and they sent a gift card as a apology. Some food was burned, cold, half there and missing. The little girl that took are order was very rude also. Maybe we will try again in a few months. For now this will be the last place on earth I will eat.

Good burger BUT the washroom smells like death, it's half empty and the over-staffed "waitresses" have no clue what's going on while the manager just watches. Tables are filled with dirty plates. Slow, I mean super slow service.

Stood in the doorway for over 5 minutes. No one even looked our way to seat us. The waitresses were cleaning the lobby looking at us but never offered to seat us. The restaurant was not even 1/4th full. One guest asked one of the waitresses about their food and she responded very rudely, "ITS COMING! I'M SORRY". After that we just walked out. I probably will never stop in there again. It would have been my first time.

The service here is terrible. Every time is worse than the last. It takes around 40 minutes for hamburgers. You're better off driving to another location than eating in. We desperately want to like this place as the kids like the food. They just make it impossible to do so. This will be our last visit to this location. The only benefit to eating inside is you won't feel obligated to tip. So it's like the drive thru but your food is cold and takes an hour. Also, you have ample time to craft yelp reviews.

You have to living under a rock to think this place would be find dining. They are a bit overpriced and as the previous review states - the only highlight is the shakes and I do like the strawberry shortcake. Fries are thin small ones and not that great. The burgers are very small and they make McDonald's look good.

The only things that are worth a damn here are the milkshakes and onion rings. I've had their cheese fries and burgers before and they SUCK. Burger King would be better down the street. The greatest milkshake flavor here offered during the winter season ONLY is the white chocolate shake. Delicioso.
